For a long time now everyone has been claiming that they are the "best web hosting providers" in the world. However, if everyone is the best that that would not be very practical. Do you know what I mean? Chances are you are probably pretty excited about starting your own web site or operating your small business online. There are a lot of decisions when it comes to web hosting, though. So having stated all of that I want to simply focus on providing you with information that will help you determine what is best to suit your needs.

In my three years as a webmaster I have worked with all kind of hosting companies. Some were a pleasure to work with, others made me just want to through the computer through the wall. In this article I am going to cover three things that the best web hosting provider must have in order to be considered the cream of the crop.

Price

People often make a decision based on the price of something. While I will admit I do tend to do it too, but when it comes to choosing a web hosting company I would not make your decision based on that. Cheaper is not always better and as I am sure you already know just because something is dirt cheap doesn't mean it is any good. Also, with web hosting you commonly get what you pay for if you go the super cheap route.

Uptime and Speed

Ok, so this is really important. Your website needs to be up for 99.9% of the time. Many hosting companies promise this and it usually true for the most part. However, I was talking to a buddy the other day and his site was down for 9 days. Can you believe that 9 day! He lost a lot of business during those 9 days and the response from the hosting provider was simply we are sorry and we did everything we could to fix the problem quickly.

Another thing you want to have with your web hosting provider is decent speed. Let's face it we are all impatient when it comes to browsing the web. Do you know what I mean. No one likes to sit there for 3 min. while a site loads. Your provider should have a good amount of speed to help keep your visitors happy.

Customer Service

Seriously, it is so frustrating when you have a problem and you have to deal with a BS customer service team. Even better they have to know what they are talking about. I recently had to explain something basic to a hosting agent because he didn't know what processes were with their hosting. Come on that is basic knowledge. Seriously! Better yet I would prefer talking to someone that is actually from the same country I am from.
